It was great to work with Bujinkan groups from both Turin and Milan.
We began with Katamune Dori (片胸捕 – one side chest capture) by using the shoulder to absorb and over extend the opponent, causing him to over extend. From this position of unbalance, we struck with ura shuto to uko, with sokugyaku-ken to butsumetsu and then pulled the opponent down to the floor.
We the applied the same principle of utilising moving back and giving way with to shoulder, to apply a form of uke (but receiving with the side of leg that is moving back) that Hatsumi Sensei often taught in the early to mid 1980s.
We used this methods against a single punch to overextend and unbalance to strike at Uko (on the opposite side) with Omote Shuto and against double punches to disturb the opponent's equilibrium and thus throw them.
We then worked with defences to Sode-Tori (袖取 - sleeve hold), by subtly manipulating the opponent’s forearm bones to provide entry into:
Sanshin no Kata (三心の型– three hearts form)
The emphasis was on how our initial movement created the opportunity for the most effective follow on striking movements.
My thank to Cinzia for organising, Ippazio for translating and to everyone who attended. Congratulations to everyone for their enthusiasm and excellent work.
