It was great to have Fred Haynes Sensei (8th Dan in Shioda Aikidō 塩田合気道 ) visit us, as my guest at the Bujinkan King Dōjō on Monday 18th May 2026.
We practiced Takagi Yoshin Ryū Jūtaijutsu (高木楊心流柔体術) techniques from the - Shoden Omote Gata (初伝表型) & Chūden no Sabaki Gata (中伝之捌型).
My thanks to Haynes Sensei for his kindness in sharing his insights regarding gyaku-waza techniques from the perspective of his extensive experience in Shioda Aikidō.
If we are to follow the approach of 'Shuhari'(守破離), as Hatsumi Sensei advises, then seeing additional perspective to form (shu), gives us the opportunity to break form (ha) and then maybe eventually break from from form (ri).
Shioda Aikidō is the Aikidō from Shioda Gozo Sensei and was taught to the Japanese 'Kidotai' (Riot Police). As such it has a very practical and focus approach.
